Turn on 2FA for every account that supports it — email, banking, social media. Use an authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Authy) rather than SMS when possible. SMS 2FA can be SIM-swapped.

A credit freeze prevents anyone from opening new credit accounts in your name — even you. It's free, reversible, and the single most effective protection against identity theft.
A fraud alert requires businesses to verify your identity before opening new credit. You only need to contact one bureau — they're required to notify the others.

Call your bank, credit unions, and credit card companies. Report the breach. Ask them to monitor for suspicious activity and consider issuing new card numbers proactively.

If your personal information was misused (not just exposed), file a report at IdentityTheft.gov. This creates a legal record, generates a recovery plan, and gives you rights with creditors.

Pull free credit reports from all 3 bureaus at AnnualCreditReport.com. Look for accounts you don't recognize, hard inquiries you didn't authorize, or address changes.

Audit every online account. Use your password manager to identify any account still using the compromised password or a weak/reused password. Change them all.
